The Mission

Visalia Senior Housing ("VSH") has served the aging population of Visalia, CA for over 50 years. A board representing the three founding churches has steadfastly and faithfully guided and guarded this vital mission: "to ensure all seniors in our community have dignified, affordable housing and enriching services." As the aging population across California is growing at unprecedented rates, this effort has never been more critical than it is today.

The Vision

The Vision of Visalia Senior Housing in California is to create a supportive community for seniors in need of affordable housing. This community is designed to encourage an active lifestyle and offers valuable services through our dedicated staff and the broader Visalia community. A primary goal is to ensure that our seniors can age in place comfortably and with dignity.

In collaboration with regional and local organizations, VSH has embraced the faith-based principle of "loving thy neighbor." As new opportunities and challenges arise, it remains the board's top priority to ensure the responsible and impactful use of VSH's resources both now and in the future. This commitment is a vital aspect of our stewardship.

This Strategic Plan outlines our current position and our aspirations for the future. It clarifies our mission, identifies the communities we serve, and highlights our vision for the type of organization we strive to be. Additionally, it addresses our most pressing needs while providing guidance for the organization's future direction.

This website will act as a roadmap for our journey, but it is not a strict mandate. It is designed to be a dynamic platform that requires continuous reflection and refinement. This will help us measure our progress and guide our efforts. Additionally, it allows us to share the vibrant experiences and excitement of our seniors. We hope that our VSH Mission is thoughtfully considered and executed with care.

The Meadows - our featured property

VSH, a local nonprofit organization, built the Meadows in 1974. It offers
100 cottage-style apartments on beautifully landscaped grounds,
enhanced by flowering fruit trees and a large garden.

The Meadows serves seniors aged 62 and over who are low- or very low-income.
Residents at The Meadows receive priority for Section 8 vouchers from the
Housing Authority of Tulare County.

The Meadows was funded under the HUD 236 Plan, providing 100 units for affordable senior housing. These apartments were constructed in the mid-1970s and began serving the Visalia community upon completion. All 100 units underwent a complete remodel, concluding in 2023.

The units are comprised of:
- 40 Studio Cottages
- 59 1-Bedroom Cottages
- 1 2-Bedroom Cottages

The Meadows is located at 3900 West Tulare Ave, Visalia, CA 93277.
